The course of ECM (Essentials of Clinical Medicine) of UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) College of Medicine is introduced from its history, aims,instructional content and methods, assessment of students, administration and continuous improvement, educational effect and characteristics. In this course, medical humanities and social science are combined with clinical knowledge such as interviewing patients, physical examination and clinical decision. Multiple instruction ways and formats are employed such as lectures, working group (group learning), workshop, and hospital practicum and in-depth study. From the philosophy of pedagogy, many good ideas are embodied in the process of course, i.e., learning from doing, self-directed learning and self-reflection, teamwork and learning from teaching. |
